IT'S REAL (Infants Teens Stories Reading Education and Libraries)

A holistic program designed to help teens grow into healthier women, focused on how reading can strengthen bonding between parents and their children. Winner of the 2009 Best Practice Award for Programs Serving At-Risk Children and Families.

Highlights:

• Visited high schools and group homes once a month
• Provided board books for babies & teen books for the parents (some about parenting; some just for fun)
• Provided nursery rhyme cards
• Taught how to read to your baby
• Discussed books, magazines, and popular topics
• Facilitated activities such as creating a baby journal & making jewelry
