Brad Fish (ACLA board) presented a ppt (available on the wiki meeting minutes page) on how financial issues in our economy and are affecting library funding and what that means for summer reading. As a result of eventual shifts in the funding stream and formula, we are looking to combine forces in new ways to provide services to areas with ‘consolidated consortium thinking’ in mind. The librarians attending the meeting agreed to the following 2009 ACLA-Sponsored SRC Programming Plan:
- Regions will again work together (like last year) to provide an incredible lineup of programs and performances in their communities.
- Each region will work with a programming budget to spend at your region’s discretion. This differs from last year where each region was asked to create a diverse lineup from a list of 12 performers. This year, the list is very extensive and includes headliner programs as well as smaller workshops and performances. And the lineup is up to your region!
- Each region will have a children’s convener who will take the lead in organizing this regional plan. An email will go out to those reps today with tips on getting started and each librarian should receive an email this week on how to proceed. Regions are free to choose any combination of performers and programs equaling your region’s allotment.
- The reps are as follows:
o Suzi Wackerbarth – North
o Joanna Heywood – South
o Jane Miller – West
o Kristin McGuire – East

LeeAnn Swensrud made a presentation on her recent trip to Norway through a Rotary Club program where she toured the county and its libraries. Great to compare what we do with what they do. They have 100% literacy in their country!
Suzi Wackerbarth also introduced her initiative Mothers Love Children’s Books; you can find out more info here: Get involved with this great project!
We also decided to hold the Youth Services District Meetings quarterly vs. every-other-month. Updated meeting dates and locations will be posted here soon.
