Meet Lindsey!!

Hello!!

My name is Lindsey Myers, and I am one of the new interns for the 2009-2010 here at ACLA.  I am from Elizabeth, PA, which is about a half hour from the city.  I love Pittsburgh, and have lived in the area for the past 15 years. I graduated in April from the University of Pittsburgh with Bachelor's degrees in History and Religious Studies.  I am an avid sports fan, so I love watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, and I also follow the University of Pittsburgh Basketball team.  I have worked in the Athletics Department at the University for the past three years, and this has only increased my love of sports!

I recently began my first semester as a student in the University of Pittsburgh's School of Library and InformationScience, specializing in the School Library Certification program.  I love working with children, and enjoy their literature just as much (if not more!) than they do.  Currently, I love reading fantasy novels for children, so of course I love the Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia series, as well as the many fantasy novels written by Tamora Pierce. The Song of the Lionness quartet by Pierce will hopefully be one of my first selections for book club as a school librarian ( the first book is called Alanna: the First Adventure; find it here). I hope to promote an active love of reading in every child that comes into my library.  I know that working at ACLA to promote the Summer Reading Program and other children and youth centered events will assist me in this goal, and so I am excited to began working on various projects with Kelley, Rachel, and all the amazing librarians in the county!

When I am not reading, I enjoy walking and running outside (which is sometimes a hard thing to do in rainy Pittsburgh!), as well as watching classic movies and television shows.  My favorite actor is Cary Grant, and I love all of his movies, but An Affair to Remember is of course one of my favorites!

I look forward to working with everyone at ACLA and learning more about public librarianship and our responsibilities to the community.  Summer Reading 2010, here I come!!

Just have to confess that "Bringing up Baby" is one of my all-time favorite movies! Cary Grant as a bumbling scientist is priceless! He still manages to be dreamy and debonair!
